NYE Fireworks, from the sky!

31 December 2017 (or is it 1 January 2018?)

One can never get bored of this amazing display, this show that millions watch on their TVs, and hundred of thousands come to see live, from one of the many overcrowded view points in the harbour.

Rooftops, parks, balcony, boats, anywhere you can have a look at the fireworks, you will find people.

And once more, Peter and Aerial Film Australia have been commissioned to cover them from the sky. With the chopper from Sydney Helicopter, and Mark Harold piloting, we take off for this grandiose show of pyrotechny.

Fire at the Farm

Australia has a very strong culture of fire, and therefore, most properties are regularly cleaned of most possible fuel that could become armful and feed a wild fire and make it harder to control and of course more dangerous.

And so as we spent a few days at Detti’s parent’s property, we helped them in that collection of fallen trees, branches, leaves. And the reward comes after dark, when the conditions are right (namely, not too dry, not too windy), in the shape of a huge bone fire. And the more fuel you collect, the bigger the fire. I was told that this one, even though it is quite decent in size, was quite small compare to the biggest one they previously had…

Shoot – Marlo: Altitude

Another shoot for the Joker Theory. Or rather, my idea of a nightmare… A big indoor techno party, very loud, full of smokers (even though it is forbidden to smoke inside…), and I won’t say a word of the crowd…

I am to be center camera. The least interesting in a way, it never moves, wide angle of the room and the stage, and needs to never stop recording… But it is also the easiest, and on a show like that, I am quite happy to be seating there and waiting for it to finish. To pass the time, I took my camera along and got those shots… Not bad I reckon…

Un autre tournage pour le Joker Theory. Ou plutôt, mon idée d’un cauchemar… Une grande partie techno, très bruyante, plein de fumeurs (alors qu’il est interdit de fumer à l’intérieur), et je ne dirai rien de la foule…
Je suis chargé d’une caméra qui doit couvrir l’évènement du début à la fin, sans bouger, plan fixe et large. Cette caméra ne doit jamais s’arrêter. C’est pas bien excitant, mais en même temps, dans un concert comme ça, je suis bien content d’avoir ma chaise, mon coin “tranquille”, et de juste devoir attendre que ça se termine ! Du coup, pour passer le temps j’ai apporté mon appareil photo, et j’ai pris quelques photos… Pas trop mal en fait…

Lavender Whiff

Another cold night where I motivate Pat for a little photo expedition. We found ourselves enjoying an amazing view of the city from Lavender Bay. And take some shots before retreating in the darkness of a train tunnel.

Une autre nuit et une autre expédition photo avec Pat. On se retrouve à admirer une superbe vue de la ville depuis Lavender Bay. On prend quelques photos avant de reculer dans l’ombre d’un tunnel ferroviaire.

The New Kid On The Block

While driving back from work, I see that this new high rise near Lane Cove had all its lights turned on. It made for a unique sight. I came home and told Pat, who right away was just as motivated as I was. We set off for a little photo mission.

It was cold. But worth it. You don’t see a building all lit up everyday! It also gave me a chance to try two lenses I got not too long ago. The Voigtlander 12mm f/5.6, and the Sigma 20mm f/1.4. I am very happy with both. Very sharp. Not too much distortion… Great lenses!

Seeing that Pat is my evening companion, I do a “ghost” shot, as he always does. Little wink to my photo expedition buddy!

Sur la route en rentrant du boulot, je vois ce nouveau bâtiment près de Lance Cove tout illuminé. Une vision peu commune. Je me suis dépêché de rentrer, de prendre mon appareil, et de motiver mon coloc Pat (je n’ai pas eu à faire de grand efforts pour le motiver!) et on est repartis ensembles pour une petite mission photographique.

Il faisait bien froid. Mais ça en valait bien la peine! Ce n’est pas tous les jours que l’on peut voir un bâtiment avec toutes ses lumières! Et cela m’a aussi donné l’occasion de tester deux de mes “nouveaux” objectifs. Le Voigtlander 12mm f/5.6 et le Sigma 20mm f/1.4. Je suis bien content des deux! Très net. Peu de distorsion… De très bons objectifs!

Et comme Pat est mon compagnon d’expédition, je pose pour quelques “ghost” photo, ce qu’il fait un peu partout. Un petit clin d’oeil à Pat!

Vivid 2016, Take 2

Vivid is almost finished, so I really need to get out there if I want to have a stroll around! Pat and Detti are feeling the same, so we decide to go there together, on a photo mission. This time we arrive with more time! After a little moment spent taking shots at the Opera House display, we explore a bit more of the light installation on display on the foreshore, and Detti obliged me kindly each time I asked for a portrait…

Vivid touche à sa fin, il faut donc vraiment que je me motive et aille m’y balader! Pat et Detti sont du même avis, alors on décide d’y aller ensemble, pour une expédition photos. Cette fois ci, on arrive sur place avec plus de temps devant nous, et après quelques photos de l’Opéra , on se balade un peu pour découvrir les différentes installations lumineuses en bord de mer. Detti se prête gentiment à mes nombreuses demandes de portraits ici et là…

Vivid’s Opera House 2016

Tonight, I planed to go and take some pictures at Vivid. I start with the Opera House, viewed from the Overseas Terminal pier. And after 10 or 15min, suddenly all goes black. I didn’t know, but Vivid only goes till 11pm. Come on Sydney, why so early? You can do better than that!!!

Ce soir, je vais prendre des photos de l’installation de Vivid en ville. Je commence par l’Opera House, vue depuis le Quai Terminal International. Et après 10, peut-être 15 minutes, soudain tous s’éteint. Je ne le savais pas, mais Vivid se termine à 23 heures. Si tôt! Allez Sydney, tu peux faire mieux que ça!

Sydney Uni Concert

Tonight, my friend Damon has asked me to come give him a hand as a second shooter to cover a Sydney Uni Concert. Three bands, “Letter to Lions”, “Olympia” and “San Cisco” are playing, the crowd is young, and the atmosphere pretty nice.

Ce soir, mon ami Damon m’a demandé de venir lui donner un coup de main en temps que deuxième photographe pour un concert à l’université de Sydney. Trois groupes se succèdent : “Letter to Lions”, “Olympia” et “San Cisco”. Le public est jeune, l’atmosphère est sympa.

Je dois dire que c’est une petit boulot bien sympathique!, Merci Damon!
