Sunrise at Bronte Beach

I continue with my series of sunrise shoot with the Ocean as a backdrop. The tides are quite low now, so I stay away from the Ocean Pools (which I think I more suited to higher tides) and instead found myself seating on the sand, surrounded by early riser who were going for a jog, walk their dogs, a swim…

It is quite weird really to see so many people up and active that early. Oh well, maybe if I was living there I would wake up earlier more often!

I am also more and more playing with long to medium exposure time, trying to find the balance between an all milky foggy ocean and a more flowing dynamic one.

Party In The Park

The first Party In The Park festival, with very good bands. A nice arvo spent on bean bags, relaxing and surrounded by happy party goers.

I had brought my Sony A7S to try it in a concert situation, but my battery was nearly dead (6%). It didn’t stop me, and I managed to get some shots, to try this camera in those situation. The pictures were taken with my Canon 70-200mm with the Metabone Adapter, and I was not disappointed in the slightest. While I had to focus manually, as those circumstances were a bit adverse and pushing the auto focus out of its comfort zone, I think the amazing low light capabilities of the camera allowed me to capture very good moments. Shot at 4000 ISO and about 1/1000s, I am quite happy with my test:)

And then, my camera died, and I was left to enjoy the moment, dancing with a happy crowd to the beat of the drums.

The two bands I took pictures of were The Jezabels, and The Cat Empire.

Sunrise Maroubra – Take II

For the third time this week I get up early to witness the sunrise. One could easily get addicted to this peaceful quite hour!

I decided to revisit Maroubra, as there was a couple of shots I wanted to take in that kind of cave I found…

The tide was still a bit high for me to be at peace (I had to dodge a few crashing waves, not so peaceful at all).

So, you guessed it, I will be back, I will monitor the tides and go there when it is a bit lower…

Sunrise Freshwater

This morning I went North. Freswater was my destination. There lay another nice ocean pool. Once I arrived I realized it was a bit further inland, so I walked among the rocks to find a spot I thought would give me nice shots. Alas the sky was not at the rendez vous, obscured as he was by heavy clouds.

Oh well, it still gave me a few nice shots. More moody and less colorful than the previous mornings. And with a nice view of Manly…

Sunrise at Mahon Pool – Maroubra

In my quest to find nice places to see and photograph sunrise, I think I tumbled onto an amazing spot. I was looking on Google map, via satellite view, and I was traveling down the cost. Looking here and there for what would look like an amazing spot. And I see Mahon Pool, an ocean pool nested among quite large rocks, cliffs with different levels, it looked amazing.

And so I drove there on this very fine morning. Not much traffic. Parking was a breeze, and just down from where I parked is this beautiful pool. The tide was quite high and so waves were crashing on the rocks before the pool, submerging it with fresh water. A few people were having a swim.

And I started taking shots.

Once the sun was up, I had a look around, and found quite a few distinct features really beautiful to shoot…

I decided I would be back!
