NYE Fireworks, from the sky!

31 December 2017 (or is it 1 January 2018?)

One can never get bored of this amazing display, this show that millions watch on their TVs, and hundred of thousands come to see live, from one of the many overcrowded view points in the harbour.

Rooftops, parks, balcony, boats, anywhere you can have a look at the fireworks, you will find people.

And once more, Peter and Aerial Film Australia have been commissioned to cover them from the sky. With the chopper from Sydney Helicopter, and Mark Harold piloting, we take off for this grandiose show of pyrotechny.

Here is the Full Gallery.

First Days in Sydney

DSC047106 & 7 January 2017

My sister Amelia and her partner Henry are landing in Sydney, and we soon will be going to Tasmania for a few weeks of discovery, little hikes, banter, laugh, good food and great company.

But because they needed a tiny bit more stress to start their holiday, their luggage, the one that contained all their camping gear, crucial for what we wanted to do in Tasmania, has gone missing. Apparently, it is not the only one. And the stress is growing. Will it get to Sydney on time? While the first day is spent having a walk along Circular Quay, and having a look at the Opera House, the second day… Well, we decide to go back to the airport, and even though we didn’t get any call, to try our luck. their luck, to pick up the luggage…

Will it work? As we step into the Oh So Luggage Full room that is supposedly handling the situation, Henry and Amelia spot their bag right away! Relieve! Suddenly the stress is gone, and we go for a little drive down to Kurnel, for a short walk on top of the cliff. Beautiful day for it!

Tomorrow, our Tasmanian adventure begins!

Here is the full Gallery

Patagonia – Chile – Puerto Natales

DSC0002111 December 2016

So. Here we are. I have been away from my blog for far too long. I have much to catch up on. Many pictures to post. A few tales to tell. So I will jump a bit ahead of time, a few days between my Alice Springs trip on this amazing trip will still be missing and I will get to them later.

Patagonia. My interest had been pricked a few years ago by a book. Or rather, by one photograph in a book. I was killing a bit of time in Dymocks, an Australian franchise of bookstores, and  that was years ago. Probably around my first trip to Tasmania. And instead of looking at novels, I was having a look at the travel section. Hikes more precisely. I had just done, or was about to do a few big hikes in Tasmania, and my interest for big beautiful hikes all over the world had been awakened. And I picked up that book about some of the most beautiful hikes in the world. In it was a chapter about the Torres Del Paine circuit in Chilean Patagonia. And a picture. A picture that was just so amazing that I bought the book. And that I since then had the dream to go and walk in Patagonia.

It took me about 10 years for this distant project to mature, grow, and become a reality. Since then, while looking at Instagram, I have seen many many pictures of Torres Del Paine, but also Fitzroy and Cerro Torre. Inviting me, enticing me to come, see, enjoy, be amazed, be humbled.

And I guess it was the right time. In early 2016, I felt ready. I emailed my dad, as we both enjoy hiking, I asked him if a hike in Patagonia would be something he would like to do. And he was up for it. He even suggested we go almost right away. I wanted summer. A tad warmer weather, longer days, more welcoming for photography. So we decided that December 2016 would be it. My mum decided to join the party, and I was very pleased that Detti decided to too:) Which made it a very special trip to look forward to: it would be the first time that my parents and my gorgeous girl friend would meet each other, it would be the first multi day hike that I would be doing with either of them really, and the first time Detti and I would be camping together, on another continent. Another place. Almost another planet altogether. I mean. look at my posts. my last one is from Alice Springs. In hot weather. Desert.

On the 11 of December, Detti an I were waiting for my parents to join us. We had arrived 2 days ahead of them, and we enjoyed a relaxing day in town, taking in the scenery, and the local weather, but also the beauty of this town at the end of the world, or so it seems (I have since then truly experience the town at the edge of the world. More about that later!)

And so here are a few pictures from our quite chilled day in Puerto Natales.

Lavender Whiff

dsc0080729 July 2016

Another cold night where I motivate Pat for a little photo expedition. We found ourselves enjoying an amazing view of the city from Lavender Bay. And take some shots before retreating in the darkness of a train tunnel.

Here is the full gallery.

The New Kid On The Block

dsc00739

28 July 2016

While driving back from work, I see that this new high rise near Lane Cove had all its lights turned on. It made for a unique sight. I came home and told Pat, who right away was just as motivated as I was. We set off for a little photo mission.

It was cold. But worth it. You don’t see a building all lit up everyday! It also gave me a chance to try two lenses I got not too long ago. The Voigtlander 12mm f/5.6, and the Sigma 20mm f/1.4. I am very happy with both. Very sharp. Not too much distortion… Great lenses!

Seeing that Pat is my evening companion, I do a “ghost” shot, as he always does. Little wink to my photo expedition buddy!

Here is the full gallery.

Vivid’s Opera House 2016

DSC00479

12 June 2016

Tonight, I planed to go and take some pictures at Vivid. I start with the Opera House, viewed from the Overseas Terminal pier. And after 10 or 15min, suddenly all goes black. I didn’t know, but Vivid only goes till 11pm. Come on Sydney, why so early? You can do better than that!!!

Here is the full Gallery.

Street Art in Newtown

DSC03929

8 July 2015

Tonight I was on my way to a small gig, and I cross path with those graphs. A whole street of great murals. Needless to say, I took a bit of time to take some shots.

Here is the full gallery.

Sunrise Freshwater

DSC029944 March 2015

This morning I went North. Freswater was my destination. There lay another nice ocean pool. Once I arrived I realized it was a bit further inland, so I walked among the rocks to find a spot I thought would give me nice shots. Alas the sky was not at the rendez vous, obscured as he was by heavy clouds.

Oh well, it still gave me a few nice shots. More moody and less colorful than the previous mornings. And with a nice view of Manly…

Hong Kong – Victoria Peak

IMG_491730 September 2014

One of the first things I have done in Hong Kong is having a look at Victoria Peak. One of the must do tourist things. Taking the funicular, one of the steeper in the world, we raise from the city. The arrival is… Quite unexpected, as we disembark in a shopping center!

But as we step out, we soon found ourselves almost alone. The track that goes around the peak is less traveled, and the view is quite nice, the luxuriant forest with the sky crappers in the background…

Here is the full album.
