Detti in Helensburgh

2016-05-13

On a nice sunny day, Detti and I headed off to Helensburgh, a bit south of Sydney, where there is some old train tunnels, quite beautiful.

The main one is well known for having glow worms inside.

But today, this was not the aim of our outing.

NYE Fireworks, from the sky!

31 December 2017 (or is it 1 January 2018?)

One can never get bored of this amazing display, this show that millions watch on their TVs, and hundred of thousands come to see live, from one of the many overcrowded view points in the harbour.

Rooftops, parks, balcony, boats, anywhere you can have a look at the fireworks, you will find people.

And once more, Peter and Aerial Film Australia have been commissioned to cover them from the sky. With the chopper from Sydney Helicopter, and Mark Harold piloting, we take off for this grandiose show of pyrotechny.

Valley of Water and more

23 February 2018

Detti and I take Belle with us, and we drive to the mountains for a nice day of wander. We started with the Valley of Water, in Wentworth Falls, but the track was cut short as the rangers are working on some part of the walk. So we explored a bit around, finding some very nice little spots less travelled.

We then drove to do another short walk, to Hanging Rock. What a view! And while she didn’t go too close to the edge, Belle fought her fear of heights to still enjoy the amazing vista.

Newnes Glow Worms Tunnel Walk

10 March 2018

Detti and I took the opportunity of this nice weather weekend to go camping in the Blue Mountains and enjoy a nice walk, that goes through the Glow Worms Tunnel of Newnes. A very varied walk, with some views over the top of the eucalyptus trees, and some passage underground, in the man made former train tunnels, but also, if you know where to look, in some natural caves where a very small stream snakes around.

Artarmon Walk

27 May 2018

Detti and I decided to go for a short walk, with picnic, along the little stream that goes from Artarmon to the bay.

A nice day, a nice walk, it is always so surprising to find yourself in such a beautiful natural setting so close to the city, the highway, the heavy traffic.

Kurnel Walk

6 July 2018

When I met Detti, and after exchanging texts for a few weeks, we finally got some common free time in our rather busy calendars, and we agreed on a first date. A walk along the shore, between Kurnel and Cronulla. This walk takes you along the cliff edge for a quite a while, among some bush vegetation, and ends up with a long walk on Cronulla beach, which is deceptively long.

Our 3rd anniversary approaching, we decided to do this walk again. And on this nice day, we left early, with a nice picnic packed, good footwear, and the perspective of a lovely day.

We started the walk by walking straight along the shore, at the bottom of the cliff, while the last time we walked the road as a starter. What a lovely place we discover! We are already planning to come back for sunrise (see next post). We spot (so far at the distance that it is only great in our imagination) a few whales passing by. But then, the cliff top is far less inviting than before, as a bushfire has burn all the bushes, and the landscape is rather barren.

So we turn back. Still a beautiful day, even is the walk got cut short.

Sunrise at Kurnel

7 July 2018

It has been a while, but today, I got the motivation to get up and go witness the rise of the new day. Detti had agree to accompany me, and we both were amazed at the amazingly bright colors on the sandstone cliffs.

I have to get this motivation back and start getting up early and take more sunrise. I miss it. The peace and quiet. This feeling of being awake. Really. Not because you have to, not because of work, or some other obligation, but simply because you want to, and the reward is always beautiful.

Heathcote National Park

27 August 2018

Today, Belle, Detti and I are off to do a walk in the Heathcote National Park, a park that I have never explored before, but seems to be quite promizing, with the promises of beautiful water hole, rivers and the like.

And we are very happily swept away by how accessible it is, and yet how pristine and natural it is! Some very peaceful water hole, amazing trees, GYmea Lillies…

We will be back!

Jenolan Cave

2 September 2018

On our second (and alas last) day in the Blue Mountains, we had decided (a bad weather forecast helping us to reach that decision) that a visit to the famous Jenolan Cave could be a very nice place to show our international friends. We decided upon the River Cave, and we were not disappointed.
